The Loyalist’s Wife: A Novel of the American Revolution Author Talk and Book Signing with Deirdre Sinnott

Wednesday, August 05, 2026 / 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

Join local author Deidre Sinnott as she discusses her new novel The Loyalist's Wife: A Novel of the American Revolution.

It’s 1777 in New York’s fertile Mohawk Valley, and tenant farmers Jane and Philip Hopper have very different ideas about the war for independence that has consumed the 13 colonies. To Philip, rebellion against the king is appalling. But Jane, recovering from the death of a newborn son, has taken solace from the hope embedded in the simple phrase “the pursuit of happiness.”

Deirdre Sinnott is an independent scholar, filmmaker, social change activist, and author of “The Third Mrs. Galway.” She was a historical consultant and researcher for the Ft. Stanwix Underground Railroad History Project, funded by the National Parks Service. She was asked to dig into the early history of Hope Chapel A.M.E. Church in Utica, the oldest Black church in the Mohawk Valley, and Grace Union A.M.E. Church in Rome. Her new novel, “The Loyalist’s Wife: A Novel of the American Revolution,” is set in New York State in 1777.

Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing.
