Librarian (Full Time)

 

Utica Public Library (The Library) is looking to hire a new member of the Reference Department in an active and vibrant urban public library.  Prospective candidates should enjoy working with a diverse population and delivering high quality customer service with tact, courtesy and professionalism to all users of the library – both on-site and in the community.   

POSITION: Librarian (Full Time) – Reference Department

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

  • Providing Reference service at the Reference Desk in person, by phone and e-mail
  • Collection Maintenance and Development of circulating and reference collections
  • Statistics and Record Keeping; Managing online reference question submissions
  • Instructing in formal and informal settings on the use of library materials, computers, and technology
  • Participating in outreach events outside The Library
  • Attend conferences, workshops and seminars to continue professional development
  • Serve on committees and working groups as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

 WORK SCHEDULE:

37.5 hours per week; combination of daytime, evening and Saturday hours

STARTING PAY: $20.43/hour; $39,840 Annual

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

MLS or equivalent from an ALA Accredited Library School

NYS Public Librarian’s Certificate

Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues

Commitment to customer-centered, quality public library service

Excellent communication skills
