Programming Coordinator (Full Time)
The Utica Public Library (The Library) is seeking a Programming Coordinator for the Adult Services/Reference Department in an active and vibrant urban public library. The Programming Coordinator will take the lead in planning and executing educational and entertaining programs for adults.
Position: Programming Coordinator (Full Time)
Summary of Duties:
Develop and implement programs, presentations, workshops and other participatory experiences for adults.
Explore original programming and exhibits centered on unique material in The Library’s collection.
Collaborate with area agencies and organizations to bring in programs that reflect the interests and diversity of the community.
Cultivate community partnerships helping put The Library at the forefront of public arts programming and lifelong learning in the greater Utica area.
Assess programs through attendance and feedback, and communicate with Library administration.
Maintain the adult programming budget, keeping a record of all associated financial documentation.
Provide friendly and helpful customer service to patrons at the public reference desk via telephone and by email. Answer a variety of questions including technology and computer help, readers’ advisory, and general research.
Coordinate local history/genealogy room volunteers.
Review and organize the local history/genealogy collection and related ephemeral materials, such as clippings, booklets, photos, etc., making recommendations for preservation and storage.
Identify innovative ways to make special collections accessible to researchers.
Select materials for acquisition and discard in assigned Dewey classification areas.
Publicity and Promotion
Prepare event fliers, signage, and related materials for display and distribution.
Craft program publicity for release to media outlets and for use on The Library’s social media, website, and email distribution list.
Other duties as assigned.
37.5 hours per week; combination of daytime, evening and Saturday hours
STARTING PAY: $20.80/hour; $40,560 Annual

MLS or equivalent from an ALA Accredited Institution or a related Museum or Archives Masters degree
Minimum of one (1) year experience in a library, archive, museum, or similar setting
Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, internet, online resources and software applications
Ability to work with a diverse group of library users
Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues to create a cohesive team
Commitment to customer-centered, quality public library service
Excellent communication skills
NYS Public Librarian’s Certificate (if applicable)
