Medicinal Plants of the Mohawk Valley

Wednesday, April 29, 2026 / 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

The Mohawk Valley is rich with diverse wild plant species that thrive in our fields and beneath the understory of our deciduous and coniferous forests. During this gathering we will discuss several wild medicinal and food plants that we can find in the Mohawk Valley including native, naturalized, and invasive species. We will also discuss conservation, sustainable and ethical harvesting, and traditional medicinal uses. Because it’s Spring, there will be a focus on the many Spring ephemerals that can be found in the woodlands right now.

Lisa Fazio is a community and clinical herbalist with 30 years of experience working with the bioregional plants of the Mohawk Valley and the Adirondack Foothills. She is the founder of “The Root Circle,” an educational center dedicated to revitalizing and promoting herbal medicine as an integral component of a healthy human community. She is also a writer and the author of “Della Medicina: The Traditions of Italian American Folk Healing”. She grew up in the city of Utica and now lives just outside the village of Newport, NY in the Kuyahoora Valley.
