Circulation Clerk (Part Time)


15 hours per week; Tuesday-Friday schedule with some evenings and Saturdays


$15.45 per hour


Performs various tasks in the Circulation Department as well as other support services needed by Utica Public Library (“The Library”).

SPECIFIC DUTIES (illustrative)

Circulation Department:

  1. Check out, discharge and renew library materials.
  2. Register new borrowers and revise existing registration records.
  3. Process receipt and sending of library materials.
  4. Perform library stack maintenance duties.
  5. Maintain cash box and process financial transactions for library services and materials.
  6. Participate in workshops, seminars, and classes to improve job skills as needed

Patron Assistance

  1. Provide excellent customer service to all library patrons.
  2. Assist library patrons with use of copier, fax machine, and computers.
  3. Refer patrons to the reference desk.
  4. Provide directional information to patrons who call or visit The Library.

Office Tasks

  1. Provide telephone service for The Library, directing calls to appropriate staff.
  2. File library materials.
  3. Other duties as assigned including community outreach or staffing special events at The Library.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous retail or customer service experience
  • Attention to detail and ability to work both independently and with others
  • Able to interact successfully with a diverse customer base
  • Commitment to quality public library standards and services
