What is the Next Chapter Book Club?

Next Chapter Book Club is a national organization of community-based book clubs for older teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Utica Public Library has been a Next Chapter Book Club affiliate since 2011.

How does it work?

Club members and two trained facilitators meet for an hour once per week and read together, learn, and make friends in a relaxed community setting. Books chosen by club members are read and discussed together during the club meeting.

Who can participate?

Older teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are interested in reading and having fun! Anyone at any reading level can participate.

Who leads the book clubs?

Two trained volunteers facilitate each group. They include students, parents, retirees, people with disabilities, and various community members.

Why join the Next Chapter Book Club?

NCBC members improve literacy skills, make friends, take part in the community, and have a lot of fun doing it!
