Some CommuniTeach program examples:

  • You’re a Trekkie.  You would like to CommuniTeach a series of lectures to share your knowledge of the history of the franchise and its impact on society, the science of Star Trek, and an introduction to spoken Klingon.
  • You’re a lawyer. You would like to CommuniTeach a workshop on public speaking skills.
  • You’re philatelist.  You would like to CommuniTeach a presentation on the history of stamps, stamp collecting, and display some of your collection.*
  • You’re a knitter.  You would like to CommuniTeach a series of workshops for beginners through more advanced knitters.
  • You’re a fly fisherman.  You would like to CommuniTeach a series of programs on fishing skills, fly tying, and matching flies to conditions.
  • You’re an Arthurian legend enthusiast. You would like to CommuniTeach a talk about historical theories of the real Arthur and media adaptations of the King Arthur story.
  • You’re a guitarist.  You would like to CommuniTeach an introductory skills workshop.
  • You’re a fantasy football player.  You would like to CommuniTeach an introduction to playing fantasy football, along with tips and tricks.
  • You’re a world traveler. You would like to CommuniTeach as series of presentations related to locales you have visited, discussing history, culture and showing images of your travels.
  • You’re a board game player. You’d like to CommuniTeach a series of learn and play sessions introducing games that families can play together.
  • You’re a bicyclist.  You would like to CommuniTeach a bicycle repair and tune-up workshop.
  • You’re a G.I. Joe action figure collector. You would like to CommuniTeach a discussion about the history of the figures and how changes in design of the figures over time demonstrates cultural attitudes toward soldiers, war, and other societal issues, such as the environment, and show off representative figures from your collection.*
  • You’re a photographer.  You would like to CommuniTeach a workshop for kids about basic photography, including options for inexpensive cameras to get started.
  • You’re a new United States citizen.  You would like to CommuniTeach a round table talk about your experiences coming to this country, along with navigating the naturalization process, and insights for other new immigrants.

*With enough time beforehand, it may be possible to display your collection in one of the Library's display cases leading up to your CommuniTeach session.

These are just some ideas.  What do you love? What do you have a wealth of information about?  How and what you CommuniTeach is up to you.  Do you want to conduct a one-off presentation, a series of workshops, or a variety of lectures on different topics?  Get in touch with Carl Antonucci of the Utica Public Library to discuss options and get involved as a CommuniTeacher at the Utica Public Library! 


What The Library can provide:  space, A/V, marketing and promotion, and possibly basic supplies.  What you provide:  your skills, interests, knowledge and passion, and any specific materials or supplies you will need, as well as a commitment to the CommuniTeach program.
