Genealogy Services

Located: Room 201 Upstairs

Our extensive genealogy room contains a wealth of historical information from both the local Central New York area as well as the entire United States.

The genealogy room is currently staffed with a volunteer to assist patrons during the following times: Monday 2-4pm, Tuesday 12-2pm, Wednesday 2-4 pm, Thursday 2-4pm, Friday 12-2pm. It is best to call ahead (315-735-2279) if you plan to visit to check if a volunteer will be available.

If a volunteer is not available a librarian will be happy to retrieve any item out of the room for you.

If you know the specific date an article/obituary appears in the paper and would like it photocopied and mailed to you we can do this for a fee:

  1. Americas Genealogy Bank
    Obituaries, newspapers, rare books, and the US Government Serial Set. Covers 1600- present. (Funded by Mid-York with CBA Funds)
  2. America’s Historical Papers
    Over 1,300 newspaper titles spanning the years of 1690 to 1977. (Funded by Mid-York Library System with CBA Funds)
  3. NewsBank
    Access to the Utica Observer Dispatch (2002-Current), The Syracuse Post Standard (1986-current), The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (1999-Current) and the Times Union-Albany (1986-current). These papers include death notices and and some obituaries. (Funded by the Mid-York Library System).
  4. Ancestry Library Edition/ Heritage Quest
