INTRODUCTION TO POETRY WRITING

Saturday, August 01, 2015 / 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

DO YOU WANT TO EXPLORE YOUR INNER POET?

Have you ever written a poem, but weren’t sure if it was “good?”  Ever had a desire to write poetry but weren’t sure about the basics?  Want to learn more about form?  Want to learn more about free-verse?  Do you read poetry but feel totally confused?  This 2-part class is designed to introduce you to the basics of what makes a poem, where the origins of poetry lie, and the techniques on how to read and write it.  The class will be a combination of writing exercises, group activities, and light lecture.  Join us and learn a bit more about where poetry can take you & how it might fit in and enrich your life.

Suzanne Richardson earned her MFA at the University of New Mexico and currently is an Assistant Professor of English at Utica College where she teaches English and Creative Writing.  Her poetry, fiction, and non-fiction have been published in several journals and periodicals. She is the author of a poetry chapbook “The Softest Part of a Woman is a Wound” forthcoming on Finishing Line Press and she gave a TEDxUTICA talk last November on “The Art of Wandering.”
